Getting to Siem Reap / Angkor Wat
Most people arrive in Siem Reap by air directly from neighboring countries. Siem Reap's small airport is only a few minutes from town. The airport code is REP, see Cambodia Airports for more information.
- Air Asia
- Air Asia is Malaysia's discount domestic carrier. If you book well in advance you can get some absolutely rock bottom fares.
- Bangkok Airways
- Flies from Bangkok to Siem Reap directly.
- Jet Star Asia
- One of Singapore's own home grown budget carriers. We've actually found flying with Jet Star to be a rather pleasant experience.
- PMT Air
- Cambodian airline with a small international network to neighboring countries.
- Royal Khmer Airlines
- Services both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. International destinations include Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hanoi.
- Silk Air
- This Singaporean airline flies from Singapore to both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
- Vietnam Airlines
- The Viet national carrier flies to both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
In addition to the above, other airlines include Angkor Airlines, China Eastern, Kampuchea Airlines and Siem Reap (see Bangkok Airways).
Airport Arrivals
Arrivals at Siem Reap's small airport are relatively straight forward. There are no sky bridges. Your plane will usually part within walking distance of the arrivals hall. If you don't have a visa or e-visa, the queue to get your visa is the first thing on your left as you enter the arrivals hall. The immigration counters are directly in front of you. If you have an e-visa, use the special lane for them. Otherwise, you can use any of the other counters.
Baggage claim is directly in front of you as you pass through immigration. Once you get your bags, hand your customs form to the customs officer on your way out. On exiting the building, you'll be greeted by dozens of people waiting to pick up customers like you. If you've arranged for a guide or an airport transfer, this is where they'll be.
Airport Transfers
Siem Reap airport can be a bit of a zoo, with dozens of taxi drivers vying for your attention. If you want to save yourself some hassles, you can book your airport transfers in advance through Viator. The following services are available:

Departing Siem Reap
Leaving Siem Reap is a quite low key affair. Before you enter the departure hall, there's branches of Dairy Queen and Blue Pumpkin to satisfy any last minute needs for nosh. There's also a pharmacy if you need to stock up on dramamine or whatever. After checking in, you stop at the counter to pay your departure tax (see below) and then proceed through security to immigration.
Within the pleasant common waiting area for flights, there's a minimally stocked duty free shop, an outlet for Artisans d'Angkor (see Shopping) and a Rittaza coffee shop. As of January 2007, there were as yet no lounges, but they were in progress.
Departure Tax
The departure tax is US$6 for domestic flights and $25 for international flights ($13 for children 12 and under).
