Restaurants in the Kuta / Legian Area of Bali
Like many tourist areas around the world, restaurants can come and go with the seasons. Even good and highly regarded restaurants can lose their leases, or have their chefs retire. The list below displays some of the many places we've tried in the Kuta and Legian areas. Entries are dated according to last visit. For more ideas, check out Bali Eats.
- Batan Waru
- Indonesian - Kuta branch of a rather well known Ubud restaurant. The selection of Indonesian and Balinese food is quite good, although rather expensive for the locals. Expect to pay 100,000 Rupiah (11.00 USD) or more per person, excluding alcohol. On Jalan Kartika Plaza, between the Discovery Mall and Bali Garden Hotel. March 2006
- Chi-Chis
- Mexican - Edible but not very remarkable American styled Mexican food. All the standard dishes, including burritos, tacos and fajitas. Not expensive for western fare, at around 60,000 Rupiah (6.60 USD) per person. In Kuta Centre, on the second floor facing Jalan Kartika Plaza. March 2006
- Black Canyon
- Thai - Branch of the large Thai coffee house chain. Serves very authentic Thai cuisine, along with a large selection of coffees and other drinks. The sidewalk café at the rear of the Discovery Mall, facing Kuta beach, is quite popular at sunset. A second, indoor, location in the outer mall is less crowded. Relatively inexpensive, at around 40,000 Rupiah (4.40 USD) per person. March 2006
- ESC
- Café - Coffee shop selling great sandwiches and other light meals as well. Covers two floors. Ground floor has large deli for ordering and take-away. The second floor is a nice lounge space nicely fitted out for those with notebooks who need to get some work done while they're on vacation. On Legian Street, next to the bomb site. March 2006
- Made's Warung
- Indonesian - Something of an institution in South Bali, Made's Warung has grown from a small road stall to a large and popular restaurant. The current main location on Legian Street in Seminyak combines a large rambling outdoor restaurant with several boutique shops selling local and imported handicrafts. April 2005
- La Lucciola
- Italian - This two story pavilion is perhaps as well known for its location as for the food. Located right on the beach in Seminyak, next to Pura Petitenget temple, it's a bit of a long way to go, but a lot of people seem to think it's worth it. Reservations recommended, if not required, for a sunset dinner. Tel. 261-047 April 2005
