Boutique Bangkok Hotels
While most Bangkok hotels are quite large, catering to the mass tourism market, there have in recent years been an increasing number of small "boutique" hotels developed. One needs to be a bit careful when considering hotels in this category. Some Thai hoteliers have jumped on the boutique bandwagon without really knowing what it means. The list below represents those properties that I think truly fall into the boutique class.
- Siam Heritage
- While perhaps not very fancy, this hotel in the heart of Bangkok's business district uses traditionally styled furniture and fabrics throughout. The hotel is just a short walk from many night-time shopping opportunities, as well as Jim Thompson's main flagship store. Facilities, which include a small pool and fitness center, make this a bit better than many boutique hotels. The Siam Heritage is also available from our discount partners.
- Reflections
- Reflections is one of those hotels that guests either fall in love with, or hate intensely. Behind its hot pink facade, each of the 30 rooms is decorated by a different designer. While the location is a bit out of the way, the hotel is very close to a Skytrain station, making the main tourist sights easily accessible.
- The Eugenia
- The owners of the Eugenia were inspired to turn an old late nineteenth century house into a small 12 room hotel designed to recall the days of the great hotels, such as Raffles, the Eastern & Oriental and the Strand. The period style decor extends from the light switches to the hammered copper bathtubs. The location off Sukhumvit Road is only a tiny bit out of the way, and is close to several of the city's well known restaurants. The Eugenia is also available from our discount partners.
- Old Bangkok Inn
- Located in Bangkok's historic center of government, the Old Bangkok Inn is a small ten room family run hotel. The old building was thoroughly remodeled into a hotel with all the modern conveniences in 2005, yet with traditional Thai touches.
- Chakrabongse Villas
- You can't get more "in the middle of things" than this. This one-time home of a late prince sits right on the river behind Wat Po and facing Wat Arun across the river. There are only three 'apartments' as part of the property, so you need to book well in advance to obtain your place. Chakrabongse Villas is also available from our discount partners.
