There are now around ten four and five-star resorts available on Koh Phangan. Interestingly, the most expensive rooms on Koh Phangan at the moment are at the Rasanada, which only claims four stars. The resort just opened at the beginning of 2009, and features private pool villas with all the mod cons. The most interesting property in this lot seems to be the Mandalai, which probably doesn't really deserve the five stars they've claimed, but still looks like good value for money.
